Sex and the Bible: Song of Solomon

There is a good deal of controversy and misinformation about the Bible and sex...while it may come as a surprise to some, the Bible, while painting some parameters around what constitutes proper human sexuality, is nevertheless rather outspoken when it comes to passion in a relationship.
The Song of Solomon is an erotic poem, and contrary to what some pastors have been taught to say, there is no indication that the two lovers were married or engaged in any way.  This is not to say that the Bible considers sex outside of marriage to be sacred in the eyes of God, because there is a fair bit of discussion on that issue in both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures; however, it is interesting that nothing in the Song of Solomon itself, no matter what Procrustean Bed people want to put it on in order to make it support a consistent ethic of biblical sexuality, suggests that the man and women were anything but passionate youths in the full-flower of romantic love.  Nonetheless, it is a provocative text for Christians and non-Christians alike to consider when trying to express what physical passion is like.  Our store, Christianbed.com, is dedicated to the physical side of pleasure, but we realize that it is the deeper emotional and spiritual passion that leads to the best physical passion...anyway, please enjoy the video and then come check out our online shop if you have been inspired!
